KERRVILLE
GEARING UP
FOR 35TH ANNUAL FESTIVAL
KERRVILLE,
Texas – It is hard to believe that this is going the be
the 35th time, in so many years, that musicians,
music enthusiasts, and campers will converge on the Quiet
Valley Ranch (nine miles south of Kerrville, Texas on TX Hwy
16) for the annual pre-summer celebration know as the
Kerrville Folk Festival.
Started in 1972 by Rod Kennedy, the Kerrville Folk
Festival is the longest continuously running music festival
of its kind in
North America
. Since then,
over 2500 outstanding artists have graced the festival
stages including such national headliners like Peter Paul
& Mary, Lyle Lovett, Nanci Griffith, Judy Collins, and
Arlo Guthrie just to name a few.
In
2002, Kennedy retired and handed the festival production
reigns over to his longtime friend and associate Dalis
Allen. Putting
on this festival is an enormous task and Ms. Allen has done
a fantastic job of bringing world-class music to the Texas
Hill Country while keeping the Kerrville Folk Festival
traditions and spirit alive and well.
The
35th Annual Kerrville Folk Festival will kick off
on Thursday, May 25 and will run eighteen straight days
until June 11. This
family oriented festival is known internationally as a
Mecca
for singer songwriters of varying musical style.
It’s a place where those just developing their
skills have the opportunity to play their music along side
those who are masters.
While
many folks come out just to see the evening on-stage shows,
a large part of the heart and soul of the festival can be
found in the campgrounds.
This is where you can truly experience and appreciate
the abundance of talent we are blessed to have in our midst
each year. Impromptu
jam sessions can pop up at any time around a campfire or
anywhere there are people willing to listen.
A 24-hour-a-day treat for musicians and music
enthusiasts alike.
In
addition to the live music there are also special weekend
concerts and activities for kids, songwriting schools,
guitar and harmonica workshops, Hill Country bike rides,
canoe trips on the Guadalupe, Sunday Folk Song Services, our
annual Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition and
concerts for emerging artists, and the Professional
Development Program for Teachers.
There is something for everyone who enjoys music,
camping, the outdoors, and making new friends.
Festival
tickets will go on sale in February once the full festival
schedule of events and performers is published.
