We have included excerpts from Slim’s letter below and you can access the full schedule of music and information for Alice ’s on Wed Dec 21 (I will be hosting), Thursday Dec 22, and Friday Dec 23 by going to our web site www.kerrvillefolkfestival.com and clicking on the red and green poster.

Stayed home for Thanksgiving and so I am going to see the lovely lights and sounds of New York City all decorated for the Holidays. Going to ‘Striking 12’, a production written by and featuring Groovelily, Rockefeller Center, Central Park, snow, friends, music, snow, Radio City, Chinatown, did I mention snow…….I am excited.

Wish all of you in our Kerrville Family a sweet and peaceful end of 2005 and a wonderful beginning for 2006. (although this probably won’t be the last time you’ll hear from us this year…..)

 Love,

    Dalis

SLIM RICHEY AND FRANCIE NEED YOUR HELP!

We are sad to say that two of our long-time festival and campground fixtures, Slim Richey and Francie (Meaux Jeaux) had a fire at their home in.  Everyone is okay, but there was significant damage to the structure.  Below is an excerpt from a message that Slim sent out to his list.  He asked us to pass it along…

Hey Everybody,

At 4 AM this morning we woke up to a smoke filled bedroom and could see flames on the roof.  We called 911 and it took a while but fire departments from Wimberley and Kyle came out and were here till 7:45 battling the blaze.

Before we say it on the phone, I'll tell you some of the details. Frequently asked questions sort of thing.

We are O.K.. Our bedroom is gone. The upstairs room has one wall gone. The kitchen has holes in the wall and ceiling and a lot of water damage. The Bathroom, living room and laundry room are Ok except for a little water damage and a lot of mess and we can turn on the electricity there.

Our clothes are mostly saved but smell like smoke. Meaux Jeaux lost her glasses and shoes.  The piano may be salvageable. We saved almost all of the instruments.

The fire was caused by our wood heater having a hole in the pipe or something.  I heated it up really hot before I went to bed..

If you are an unemployed construction worker this may be your lucky day.

Damage is estimated at about $70,000.00 but don't think we had insurance.

We spent too much of our savings on combating Oak Wilt. Oh, well!

We will be at gigs.  I guess we will get a lot of calls and e-mail.  We can do e-mails from the business. I don't guarantee answering all of them but we'll read them.

Our business phones are 512 847 88333 and 512 847 8605. We'll try to get the home phone working even though we won't be here. We don't need a lot of phone calls and I don't mean that to be rude because I know a lot of people care. We just won't be here much for a while. We're sort of in shock. We will need a lot from friends but don't know what right now

In the meantime we'll be playing music, working at our business, living in a motel or in Austin with friends. And I'm looking for a part-time job selling smoke detectors.

I'm writing to everybody we invited to my last party.  You might tell anyone you think is out of the loop.  There are a lot of addresses we don't have.

Your friend,

Slim

THIRD “MUSIC TO LIFE” SONGWRITING CONTEST TO BE HELD AT THE 2006 FESTIVAL

Another songwriting contest scheduled for the 2006 Kerrville Folk Festival is the Public Domain Foundation’s MUSIC TO LIFE contest.  The Public Domain Foundation, in conjunction with the Kerrville Folk Festival, has now produced two MUSIC TO LIFE contests and concerts (2001 and 2003) and will conduct its third in 2006. This third MTL series once again seeks original or previously unpublished compositions dedicated to a social or political issue of concern. Finalists receive travel stipends and free passes to the Kerrville Folk Festival, and top award winners receive donations of up to $1,000 to the charitable organization(s) of their choice.  The MTL contest solicits and receives entries from songwriters domestically and abroad. Subsequently, MTL judges choose ten finalists to perform their compositions on June 3, 2006 at the Kerrville Folk Festival. Finalists typically each represent a different state from around the country and offer songs which speak to such issues as the emotion of children in foster care, the vitality of volunteers, and the brutal impact of war.  All MTL entries should be received by the PD Foundation by February 4, 2006.

The Public Domain Foundation promotes and facilitates the creation of cause-related music and furthers its impact upon issues and organizations of social and political justice.  To learn more about the Public Domain Foundation or to obtain MTL guidelines and an entry form for the 2006 MUSIC TO LIFE contest, visit www.pdfoundation.org/mtl/2006.cfm.
