35th ANNUAL KERRVILLE FOLK FESTIVAL TIME IS HERE!

This year’s banner 35th Annual Festival starts next Thursday, May 25 and will run for 18 glorious days until Sunday, June 11.  The festival will be held on the Quiet Valley Ranch which is 9 miles south of Kerrville on TX Hwy 16.

Join us as we welcome Guy Clark, Dar Williams, Sue Foley, Ruthie Foster, Trout Fishing in America , and a host of your other festival favorites.  Also, on Memorial Day, May 29 we will also be celebrating the life of our dear friend Allen Damron, who passed away this last year.

For festival information and schedule information, visit our website at www.kerrvillefolkfestival.com.  Tickets are available on the website also.

JUST ADDED:  TWO PARTIAL CAPO WORKSHOPS OFFERED AT THIS YEAR’S FESTIVAL

This year, Kyser Musical Products is offering two free partial capo workshops during the festival, as well as free one-on-one lessons and half-price capos. The first ten people to sign up (and show up) for each workshop also get a FREE Short-Cut Capo.

The workshops will cover use of the Drop-D™ and Short-Cut™ capos, separately and together in more than a dozen different positions in standard tuning. Learn the structural reasons why capos fit in certain combinations, and wow audiences with the variation you get by playing on both sides of the capo.

The first section of each workshop will be an interactive presentation, followed by practice time and one-on-one coaching. During the last hour, participants get to showcase one song that they’ve adapted to include partial capo techniques. A handout will be available, and everyone should bring a guitar.

LAND RUSH ON RESETTLEMENT DAY THIS WEEKEND!

We allow guests to the Kerrville Folk Festival an opportunity to come out to the Ranch and claim or set up their campsites as early as the Sunday prior to the first day of the festival.  In 2006, you can set up your camp anytime after 10 AM on May 21.  All you have to do is pay the normal camping fees for the dates between when you set up and the beginning of the festival (Thursday, May 25).

In order to make this as smooth a process as possible, we have what is called LAND RUSH.  The Land Rush actually takes place at 10 AM on Sunday, May 21 prior to which, no one is able enter the campgrounds to set up their camp.  Here is the Land Rush process:

Starting at noon on May 19, the Friday before Land Rush, people will begin lining up their vehicles in the festival parking lot on the south end of the ranch.  Most people set up tents by their vehicles and camp in the parking lot for the weekend.

You will need to purchase a “stake” that will be used to claim or mark your camping spot once the campground is opened.  A stake will be needed for each tent or canopy spot you wish to claim (one stake is good for roughly a 10’ x 10’ area).

A stake cost $5 per night from Sunday until the date of your earliest ticket ($20 if you are holding a Day 1 Ticket, $25 if you are holding a Day 2 Ticket, etc) and will be sold at “Staff Central” (the blue building by the festival office) from 8 - 10  AM on Sunday, May 21.  YOU MUST HAVE TICKETS IN HAND FOR THE FIRST WEEKEND OF THE FESTIVAL IN ORDER TO PURCHASE A STAKE AND/OR PARTICIPATE IN LAND RUSH!  You will be able to pick up your will call tickets at the festival office.

At 10 AM on Sunday, May 21 the horn will sound and vehicles will start entering the campgrounds in the order in which they were lined up in the parking lot...the LAND RUSH BEGINS!  You then find your spot(s) and mark it with your stake.   You can then either set up your camp and stay or you may choose to put down a tarp with your stake and come back for the weekend.

DONATE TO THE BACKSTAGE SHOWER FUND

I think we all understand how important it is to keep are volunteer staff clean and happy.  While the existing backstage shower and bathroom facilities are still "functional" they are rapidly decaying to the point where they will soon be unusable.  With your help we can raise the money needed to build a new structure that will last for another 35 years. Please give what you can!  You may make a donation on the website
(www.kerrvillefolkfestival.com/shower_fund.htm ) through secure Pay Pal transaction, or you can mail a check payable to:

WORK WEEKEND & PROJECT REPORT

Work is continuing on the Threadgill Theater reconstruction project, but should be pretty far along by the opening of the festival.  Wait until you see this structure!  Our friend John Curry has been taking lots of photos of the work in progress and has them posted on his photo site at http://www.flickr.com/photos/curryjc

The Crafts Booth Update project is essentially done.  The new, larger booths will provide a little more room for both vendors and customers.

There is still a lot of work to be done so if you come out for land rush this weekend and are able, please lend us a hand.  There are lots of benches to build for Theadgill as well as painting and general grounds cleaning.

CONTINUING OUR PARNERSHIP WITH KOYOTE RANCH

If staying on the Ranch or in a Kerrville Hotel isn't your thing, you might want to consider checking out Koyote Ranch.

yards, tent camping and a beautiful B & B.  Located on 95 acres the resort offers 3 lakes, hiking trails, and an activity pool and spa.  Also on the property is Koyote Mercantile a general store complete with deli / grill and
Biergarten All cabins are air conditioned and range in size from 1 room that sleeps 4, to 1 bedroom w/loft, to 2 bedroom with loft that sleeps up to 10.
