The ingredients behind northern New England’s Jason Spooner Trio read like a bizarre musical science experiment. Start with a prolific, singer/songwriter (Jason Spooner) with heavy roots, folk & blues influences. Then mix in a classicly-trained bassist (Adam Frederick) with foundations in jazz and a knack for serious pocket grooves. Lastly, shake things up with a rock-solid drummer (Reed Chambers) with deep-seeded roots in funk, soul & reggae and you’ve begun to scratch the surface of this unique, energetic band.

In recent news, Jason won the 2007 Mountain Stage NewSong contest international finals at the South Street Sea Port in New York City. He was also a national finalist in the 2007 Starbucks Music Makers Competition. He was part of the Emerging Artist Showcase at the 2005 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in Hillsdale, NY. Jason was chosen as a 2006 New Folk Finalist for the renowned Kerrville Folk Festival in  Kerrville, TX. Jason’s song “Big Black Hole” won him the title of Songwriter of the year at the Ossippee Valley Bluegrass Festival in 2005. He was a finalist in the prestigious 2004 John Lennon Songwriting Competition which receives over 10,000 entrants world-wide each year. Other highlights include Jason’s song “Pickup Truck” airing on NPR’s “Car Talk” radio program and the recent taping of an episode of “FoodNation with Bobby Flay” on the Food Network which featured song clips & performances by Jason and his band throughout the episode.
