We believe the reasons we need to replace the
existing staff showers are obvious.
Attached is a suggestion for the new staff showers.
20’ X 32’ – 640 sf.
As a comparison, the campground showers are approx.
16’ X 40’ – 640 sf., but don’t have toilets.
This particular layout is pretty specific based on
alignment of the plumbing components.
Most of the water lines are on inside walls,
especially hot. We
don’t have the water main running under it, like we do in
the old showers.
Any design could be done in stages as money is raised
and materials bought or collected.
Dig the trenches, do the rough plumbing, pour the
slab, stack block, build the roof – like the campground
showers. Or pier and beam and stick frame – like the
existing. Or set
the poles, trusses, roof, then the plumbing, slab floor and
walls – like the Pavilion.
This might be the perfect opportunity to show
Greenbuilding principles.
Let’s get a design approved.
Send your suggestions and donations, ASAP.
It needs to be enclosed, but with lots of
ventilation. We
can figure out how to make it seem like we’re still
outdoors – skylights, gable end windows, etc.
Lots of opportunities for wine bottle walls and other
alternative ornamentation.
Design for year-round usage but easy to repair.
2’- 3’ overhang on a metal roof to shade the
walls from the Texas Summer sun.
We have a concrete crew who would love to show what
they can do if they have plans.
(For the CG showers, Dave set the forms on Thursday
and we backfilled with dirt from the parking lot on Friday
and into the night, used hogwire for re-mesh and poured on
the last Saturday during the Festival.)
We need windows and doors here before we start
framing walls. Call
when you have any materials for donation.
We need urinals and HC toilets anytime.
Propane water heaters are cheaper to run than
electric and could serve as a back-up or pre-heater during
fest.
Rainwater collection and a Watson Wick for greywater
to supply an attached greenhouse.
Let’s start raising money – benefits in
Austin
, collection jars in the old showers, tip money, etc.
Bath House or water garden to replace
old staff showers.
By all assessment, this is a very low priority, but
this seems to be the first question asked.
Since we should not park any cars on the oak motte,
my vote would be to preserve this space - not allow camping,
parking or construction on this site.
Because we have just replaced the sewer line and must
retain access to the main water valve and because we do not
have a single bathtub on the ranch, I would like to suggest
that we build a Bath House in place of the old staff
showers. With
the proximity of Cureville, it would expand the benefits of
the healing arts to have a place to soak.
Imagine soaking that twisted ankle in a 6’ cast
iron footed tub under the shade of the oaks backstage
surrounded by a water garden.
All this will come later, after we get the new
showers built.
