ABOUT THE FACULTY
Del Rey
(Seattle, WA)

Del Rey
started playing guitar when she was four years old. At
thirteen, she was immersed in the world of folk music,
especially blues and jazz from the ’20s and ’30s. She has
tried to get a whole band onto her solo instrument from the
beginning. This gives her music an interesting complexity,
especially when applied to the ukulele.
Rags, blues and tunes of the early 20th century are her
specialty, even as she writes new music to add to the
tradition. She has taught and played all over the world, and
also brings her distinctive fingerstyle approach to guitar
and ukulele to people through her teaching DVDs on Homespun
“Boogie-Woogie Guitar” and “Blue Uke. Her website is
www.delreyplays.com and her albums can be found at
www.hobemianrecords.com.
Jim D’Ville
(Los Osos, CA)

Jim
D’Ville is a music educator and facilitator who is on a
mission to get ukulele players off the paper and playing
music by ear. He has taught his Play Ukulele By Ear
workshops to thousands of players in the United States,
Canada and Australia. Jim is the author of the Play Ukulele
By Ear DVD series and hosts the popular Play Ukulele By Ear
website

Aaron Keim
(Hood River, OR)

The
Quiet American is husband and wife duo, Aaron and Nicole
Keim. A home-grown modern folk revival, their music
incorporates traditional ballads, banjo breakdowns, raggy
choruses, gospel duets and other dusty Americana gems, all
delivered on a wide variety of acoustic instruments.
Gathered around a single microphone, Aaron and Nicole
present a concert experience that pays tribute to old time
folk music traditions yet strives to connect to a modern
audience. Dusty back porch or shining concert hall, The
Quiet American reminds you why home made, hand crafted,
American folk music will never fade away.
No
stranger to the ukulele world, Aaron has been teaching
ukulele techniques and performing at festivals since 2004.
As an educator with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education
and a master’s degree in Musicology, his true talents lie in
his ability to adapt instruction to fit a wide range of
learners and learning styles. Aaron is an ambassador for old
time folk music in the ukulele world, adapting banjo and
guitar techniques to the ukulele (including playing in the
“clawhammer” tradition). His YouTube instructional videos
have gained a worldwide following and have led to teaching
and performing opportunities in N. America, Europe and
Australia. Aaron is also a luthier, building instruments
for Mya-Moe ukuleles (www.myamoe.com) since
2011 and as Beansprout banjo ukuleles from 2007-2011.
